Frequently asked questions

What AI tools does Promptuary work with?

All of them. Promptuary copies prompts to your clipboard as plain text, so it works with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, local models, or anything else. No lock-in.

Where is my data stored?

On your Mac, in a human-readable JSON file. If you enable iCloud sync, the file lives in your personal iCloud Drive container instead. Either way, your data never touches our servers because we don't have any.

How does iCloud sync work?

When enabled in Settings, Promptuary stores your prompt library in your iCloud Drive. Changes sync automatically across all your Macs signed into the same Apple ID. You can switch between local and iCloud storage at any time.

What are variables?

Variables are placeholders in your prompts that you fill in each time you use them. Write {{topic}} or {{language}} in your prompt text, and Promptuary will show a fill-in form when you select it. It remembers your recent values for quick reuse.

What are fragments?

Fragments are reusable text blocks (tone guidelines, role definitions, disclaimers, etc.) that you can embed in any prompt using {{fragment:name}}. Update a fragment once and every prompt that references it picks up the change.

What are chains?

Chains connect multiple prompts into a sequence. Each step can reference the previous step's output using {{previous}}. So you could do something like research → draft → review, all in one flow.

Can I search prompts from Spotlight?

Yes. Promptuary indexes your prompts in Spotlight, making them searchable system-wide from anywhere on your Mac.

How much does Promptuary cost?

Promptuary is a one-time purchase. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no premium tiers. Buy it once and everything is yours.
