Promptuary

Privacy Policy

Effective: July 9, 2026

Applies to Promptuary for Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

Overview

Promptuary is built to be private. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. The apps work offline. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no servers operated by us.

This policy covers Promptuary for macOS and Promptuary for iPhone and iPad. Platform-specific details are noted where they differ.

Data We Collect

None. Promptuary does not collect personal information, usage data, analytics, crash reports, or telemetry of any kind.

Apple's App Store privacy labels for the iOS app reflect this: Promptuary does not collect data linked to you.

Data Stored on Your Device

All prompt library data you create stays on your device unless you choose iCloud sync.

macOS

  • Your prompt library (prompts, categories, fragments, and chains) is stored as a JSON file. The default location is ~/Library/Application Support/Promptuary/.
  • Execution history and variable history are stored locally on your Mac.
  • App preferences such as theme, text size, and global hotkey are stored in macOS UserDefaults.

iPhone and iPad

  • Your prompt library is stored as a JSON file in the app's Application Support directory on your device.
  • Variable fill history and execution history are stored locally on your device.
  • App preferences such as theme, appearance, and storage mode are stored with Apple's standard on-device settings APIs.

On all platforms, your data remains on your device unless you enable iCloud sync.

iCloud Sync (Optional)

Promptuary offers optional iCloud sync for your prompt library. When enabled:

  • Your prompt library is stored in your personal iCloud Drive container.
  • Sync is handled by Apple's system frameworks on macOS and iOS.
  • We never see, access, or process your iCloud data.
  • Your Apple ID credentials are never accessed by Promptuary.
  • You can switch between local storage and iCloud at any time in Settings.
  • When iCloud sync is enabled, the same library can stay aligned across Mac, iPhone, and iPad signed into the same Apple ID.

Clipboard Access

Promptuary uses the system clipboard only when you ask it to.

  • Copying prompts: When you copy a prompt, the finished text is placed on your clipboard. Clipboard contents are not stored, logged, or transmitted by us.
  • macOS quick capture: On Mac, Promptuary can read the clipboard when you choose to create a new prompt from the clipboard. That content is used only for the prompt you are creating.
  • iOS quick capture: On iPhone and iPad, Promptuary can read the clipboard when you choose to paste clipboard text as a new prompt.

Import and Export

On iPhone, iPad, and Mac, you can export your library as a JSON file and import prompts from files you select. Import and export happen on your device. We do not receive those files.

App Context Detection (macOS only)

On Mac, Promptuary can detect the name of the foreground application to show context-relevant prompts. This information is checked locally on your device and is never stored or transmitted.

The iOS app does not perform foreground app detection.

Third-Party Services

Promptuary does not use third-party analytics platforms, advertising networks, crash reporters, or tracking SDKs.

If you enable iCloud sync, Apple's iCloud service handles storage and sync under Apple's own privacy policy.

Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
